Hereford Civic Society Meetings

Hereford Civic Society Meeting Programme 2020/21

Government lockdown and social distancing regulations introduced in the Spring of 2020 forced us to cancel members’ meetings scheduled for March 2020 and subsequent months.

Receipt of a small grant from Herefordshire Council encouraged us to experiment with Zoom and to move our meetings on-line.  The first on-line meeting was held on July 1st when Nic Howes talked of the restoration, history and importance of the Yazor and Eign brooks that run through Hereford City.  This attracted an audience of 43 screens.  Meetings were also held in September and October.   We took the opportunity to record each talk and question/ answer session.

In November we held two meetings – the first given by Duncan James with an audience of 62 screens and the second by Jesse Norman MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire with a talk entitled National Park for Herefordshire.   This makes a total of five meetings.  All have been recorded and are now available on Youtube using the following link:

We will continue to record our monthly speaker meetings (with of course the agreement of each speaker).  Each recording will be added to our Youtube “channel” shortly afterwards availing members of a catch-up resource.

The meetings themselves will continue to take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month:  dates for your diary are:

Thursday 15th April 2021

Thursday 20th May 2021

Thursday 17th June 2021

Thursday 15th July 2021

when of course you’ll be able to ask questions and join any discussion.  We will advise you of speakers and topics both on this page and by e-mail approximately two weeks ahead of each meeting and will include the necessary Zoom link.

Our 2020/21 programme includes the postponed July 2020 Berkeley trip – to the castle, Dr Jenner’s House and Museum and parish church.  No date yet as this depends on a relaxation of Coronavirus restrictions and of course we must be assured of participants’ safety.

We have recently invested considerable effort improving our website herefordcivicsociety.org.uk and will update the Home page with any changes to the above

Stay safe

Kind Regards,

David Fowler, Chairman
