Hereford Civic Society Meetings

In light of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's advice, your committee believe the responsible and indeed only course of action is to suspend our meeting programme whilst there are coronavirus restrictions on social distancing, wearing of masks and indoor meetings.

Our intention is to reschedule outstanding meetings and our Annual Lecture that formed part of our 2019/20 programme to new dates and to announce our 2020/21 programme as soon as circumstances allow

Similarly we have had to postpone the annual outing, which in 2020 was to Berkeley for guided tours of the Castle and the Edward Jenner House and Museum. More members had signed up for this trip than any other we've arranged these past five years - so if your name is not already on the passenger list, click the link to find out more. There are only a handful of seats on the coach not taken so you do need to let me know if you are interested in joining us as/ when we have a new date ..... most probably in Spring 2021

On July 1st, as an experiment and in partnership with the Left Bank, Nic Howes delivered his talk on the Yazor, Widemarsh and Eign Brook Restoration Project that had been scheduled for March. A well-illustrated presentation with a busy concluding question and answer session proved that digital technology in capable hands can deliver a good talk. 43 “Zoom” participants meant an audience of over 50. In addition, others possibly looked at the youtube link of Nic cycling along the course of the brooks and commenting on the brooks’ features and the challenges encountered by the project. We are looking to organise additional “Zoom” sessions in conjunction with the Left Bank until such time as we are able to return to the Kindle Centre. A "link" to join these sessions will be sent to members by e-mail

We have recently invested considerable effort improving our website herefordcivicsociety.org.uk and will update the Home page with any changes to the above

Stay safe

Kind Regards,

David
